Be wary of a curtain sold with just a single large number, without a lab, without a standard, and without a frequency: that’s a claimed performance, not a measured performance.

⚖️ Weight: the law of mass

In acoustics, the rule is based on physics: for the same design, the heavier a material is, the more effectively it blocks sound. 📐 Installation is key to performance

The roller shutter box —the main sound bridge. The shutter should extend beyond the box, ideally all the way to the ceiling.
The side overhangs —at least 15 to 20 cm on each side; otherwise, the bran will spill over the edge of the fabric.
The air gap —10 to 15 cm between the curtain and the glass—enhances the acoustic and thermal performance.
The track —provides a tighter seal than a rod: the configuration that maximizes performance.

What a Curtain Doesn't Do

The same principle applies: a curtain is not building insulation and is not equivalent to double-pane windows or a partition wall. It reduces some noise—especially at mid and high frequencies—and significantly improves perceived comfort, provided it is installed properly and covers the opening completely.
