Public Register of Test Reports

The term "soundproof" is not regulated. Any curtain can display it, with any decibel value. This register gathers, in one place and freely accessible, the test results that manufacturers agree to make public.

It is open to everyone, including competitors. Each entry is published as it is submitted to us, without comment, ranking, or selection.

The six pieces of information requested

The laboratory that carried out the test, named.
Its accreditation — ISO/IEC 17025, and the body (COFRAC, BELAC or equivalent).
The test standard applied: ISO 10140-2 for attenuation, ISO 354 or ISO 11654 for absorption. The two quantities are distinct.
The report number , and whether it can be provided upon request.
The result : the overall index (R _w with its adaptation terms, or α _w and its class), and separately the maximum value with the frequency at which it was measured.
The surface mass of the finished product , in kg/m² — not the weight of the fabric alone.

In situ measurements: protocol published, data to follow

A laboratory test measures a single element under standardized conditions. It indicates a potential outcome, not what an occupant will actually experience in their home. We are therefore publishing, as open access and under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, the in-situ measurement protocol that we use at our clients’ sites—with the requirement to publish unfavorable results and abandoned campaigns.

The datasets produced by applying this protocol will be submitted quarterly, under a unique identifier linked to the same concept DOI. Any campaign conducted by a third party in accordance with this protocol, regardless of the outcome, may be reported to us for inclusion in our database.

Send the six pieces of information to contact@cottonsilence.com , subject line "Register". The full report is not required: the references are sufficient, as they allow anyone to request it from the manufacturer or laboratory.

Commitments. Publication as submitted, without rewording. No ranking, no rating, no editorial commentary. All submissions received are published, even if they are better than ours. Removal upon request from the sender. Correction within seven days of notification of an error, with a visible history.

What this register is not

This is not a comparative study. The tests presented here were conducted under different conditions and configurations. The values are not directly comparable, and we are not drawing any rankings from them.
It is not a label. Being listed in the register does not attest to any quality: only to documentary transparency.
An absence proves nothing. A manufacturer not listed in this registry may very well possess tests and choose not to publish them. The registry records what is made public, nothing else.
We are both judge and jury. Cotton Silence is a manufacturer and is listed in the registry. That is precisely why the above rules are written, public, and enforceable.
